Our Experience With the Gazco Reflex 105 Balanced Flue Gas Fire

The Reflex 105 is the bigger brother of the famous Gazco 75T, and the balanced flue version brings that same spectacular scale to homes with no chimney or flue at all. It’s a room-sealed system — the fire draws its combustion air from outside and vents straight back out through an external wall or up through the roof, so there’s no chimney needed.

We’ve fitted plenty of these into new builds and renovations that built without a chimney. Walk into a room with a Reflex 105 fitted and people know straight away it’s one of the best fires on the market.

The world-renowned Schott Robax makes the glass front. We’ve often had customers try to pick a log out of the fire without realising the glass was there at all — that’s how invisible it is in person.

The whole fire is designed to give you the feeling of a large open fire in the room, without the sense of anything between you and it — and because it’s room-sealed, you get that open-fire look with none of the draughts. You get the open fire, with all the convenience, cleanliness and efficiency of what some would argue is Gazco’s best gas fire to date.

Installation

The Installation is straightforward in principle, but the requirements are different to a conventional flue fire. You’ll need a registered gas installer to commission and connect the fire to your gas supply, but there’s no chimney to line — instead, the balanced flue pipe needs a clear run to an external wall or through the roof.

Because there’s no existing chimney breast to work with, most balanced flue installations involve building a false chimney breast or stud wall to house the fire and flue run, or setting it into a feature wall — giving you the traditional fireplace look in a home that was never built with one. Positioning matters here: the flue terminal has minimum clearances from windows, doors, and boundaries, so we always plan the route before any building work starts. With both the Harmony10 control system and Wifi control you can ignite and extinguish the Reflex 105 gas fire, control the flame height, program the fire either thermostatically or to a daily schedule and also adjust the brightness of the Emberlight LED fuel bed.
