Our Experience With the Gazco Onyx
The Onyx is one of the only fires on the market producing a display like this. The flame visuals come from a rotating set of mirrors, which lets it create effects nothing else manages — sparks and wafts of smoke moving within the fire, adding real depth to the illusion. You can also make the flames wider and taller, which isn’t typically available even on high-end electric fires.
Having fitted and worked with gas and electric fires my whole life, I’d say the Onyx from a short distance — and certainly to the untrained eye — is almost indistinguishable from a real gas fire. The technology Gazco have put into this one genuinely brings chimneyless fires to life for new Irish homes built without a chimney.
Removable side panels mean the one fire can be fitted single-sided, two-sided or three-sided. A few screws and they pop off.
Can you fit the Gazco Onyx yourself?
Possibly. The fire itself needs no major tools. You remove the glass by hand-unscrewing two screws, place the logs and stones for the effect you want, replace the glass and plug it in. Batteries for the remote are supplied. It’s close to plug and play.
The work is in what it goes into. The Onyx is designed to be fitted into a media wall or cabinet, and that’s where the real job is — building the structure, getting the aperture right, and finishing it properly.

The Fusion is brought to life by our Chromalight® Plus LED system, illuminating the fuel bed from below with an array of colours, both authentic and vibrant, or the colour changing spectrum mode for a varied and mesmerising spectacle. When the lifelike Birch Log-effect is installed, the hidden internal log lighting and Burnt Ember Logs enhance the fire’s authenticity.
Optional mood lighting
For an extra atmospheric touch, the Fusion
can be paired with an optional Mood Lighting System, offering up to six metres of flexible LED strips that can be discreetly installed around a TV or along shelves to enhance your fire’s glow, especially suited for an impressive media wall centrepiece. For seamless control, the optional Mood Lighting System are fully controllable with the remote and app.
